Forensic Identification Services (FIS)
The Forensic Identification Unit plays a vital role in supporting investigations within the Kennebecasis Regional Police Force. These highly skilled members provide technical and investigative expertise at major crime scenes, including homicides, robberies, sexual assaults, and break and enters. Their work involves carefully recording and preserving scenes, collecting and analyzing physical evidence, and providing expert testimony in court to support the judicial process.
To prepare for this critical responsibility, members complete an intensive eight-week training program at the Canadian Police College in Ottawa, where they develop the knowledge, skills, and professionalism required for thorough crime scene examinations. This includes processing fingerprints, footwear impressions, and tire tracks, determining evidentiary value, enhancing digital images, preparing detailed evidence charts, and presenting opinion evidence in court.
Their dedication and expertise are fundamental to delivering professional, evidence-based policing and enhancing public safety in our communities.
